Green Garden Road District
Duties of the Highway Department
Green Garden Township Road District is located at 26448 S. Center Road between Bruns Road and Pauling.
The Road District is responsible for maintaining all accepted roads and rights-of-way in unincorporated Green Garden Township, encompassing 36 square miles and approximately 68.5 miles of road.
Township roads comprise approximately 7 miles of gravel, with the balance being a mixture of hard surface roads, pavement, and tar and chip.
With few exceptions, the right-of-way is 66 feet wide, or 33 feet from the center of the street to the property line.
Within those 66 feet, the Road District assumes many responsibilities, including:
- Pavement Maintenance (Including resurfacing, patching, and sealing)
- Permits & Bonds
- Roadside Mowing
- Curb Maintained
- Snow Removal and Salting
- Culvert Replacement
- Ditch Cleaning
- Bridge Maintenance
- Building and Grounds Maintenance
- Roadside Cleanup
- Maintain Street Lights
- Tree Trimming and removal
- Maintain Fleet of Equipment and Vehicles
- Shoulder Stone Maintenance
- Branch Pick Up
- Street Sweeping
Your Road District is equipped to handle most of these duties. However, some duties are contracted with private firms through a bidding process.
Green Garden Highway Department has two full-time employees and part-time/seasonal employees for snow removal and summer help.
The Highway Commissioner's main job is administrative functions. However, the Highway Commissioner is in the field most days, assisting Road District Crews with daily tasks.
Green Garden Township also has an excellent Intergovernmental Agreement with other adjacent municipalities and townships. Manpower and equipment are often exchanged to increase efficiency and to keep tax dollars down.

Green Garden Township is located in Will County, Illinois, between the villages of Manhattan and Monee and straight south of Frankfort. The center of the township is the intersection of Manhattan-Monee and Center roads.
